Turkey ends student headscarf ban
Turkey is a secular state. The Opposition parties have opposed the change in law, saying that the link between state and religion must be upheld. The ban on headscarves has been in place since 1997 after fears that Turkey was becoming too Islamist. Even though headscarves are now allowed, the chador and the burka are still banned. |
