Many young people are too afraid of gang violence to use their local youth service provision. That is the finding of research recently carried out in the UK.
In addition to being scared by gang violence, many young people were frightened of being labeled as gang members if they did use the provision. They were as concerned about being labeled by police and local authorities as they were of being lableled by their peers.
The findings are in a new report from the University of Manchester entitled, 'Youth gangs in an English City'
